IPL Auction 2025 Possible Retention List for Each Team

IPL 2025: Players Each Franchise Could Retain Ahead of the Mega-Auction

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction set for later in 2024, here’s a breakdown of players each franchise might choose to retain if they opt for all six available retention slots.

The IPL has introduced updated player retention guidelines for the 2025 season, which will come into effect prior to the mega-auction scheduled for later this year.

Under these new rules, each franchise can hold onto up to six players using the Retention and Right to Match (RTM) options. This can include a maximum of five capped players and up to two uncapped players. However, there are no restrictions on the number of overseas players a team can retain.

Below is a potential list of players each franchise could retain if they decide to utilize all six retention spots:

The first three retentions will result in a deduction from the auction purse — capped at Rs. 120 crore per team — by Rs. 18 crore, Rs. 14 crore, and Rs. 11 crore, respectively. The fourth and fifth retentions will further reduce the purse by Rs. 18 crore and Rs. 14 crore, respectively.

In total, retaining five players will lead to a Rs. 75 crore reduction in the auction purse. If a team opts to retain a sixth player, who must be an uncapped player, an additional Rs. 4 crore will be deducted.

An additional rule change allows any capped Indian player who has not appeared in any starting XI in international cricket over the last five calendar years to be considered as an uncapped player.
